Kobe Bryant's widow Vanessa Bryant filed a lawsuit against the Island Express Helicopters Inc. on Monday, 24 February 2020, in Los Angeles Superior Court.
She sued the company for the January crash that tragically killed her husband, Kobe Bryant, and daughter Gianna Bryant. She filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the doomed helicopter company.
Amid the lawsuit, the company reported that the pilot, Ara Zobayan, operated the helicopter negligently flying in cloudy conditions that resulted in the crash.
The 26 January 2020 crash took the lives of 9 others, including pilot Ara Zobayan. Moreover, the lawsuit stated that Zobayan was careless in eight different ways listed failing to accurately assess the weather, flying into conditions he wasn't cleared for, and failing to control the helicopter.
Furthermore, the suit reads, Defendant Island Express Helicopters' breach of its duty and negligence caused the injuries and damages complained of herein and Plaintiffs' deceased, Kobe Bryant, was killed as a direct result of the negligent conduct of Zobayan for which Defendant Island Express Helicopters is vicariously liable in all respects.
The National Transportation Safety Board has not yet disclosed the cause of the crash, however, has revealed that the crash was not a mechanical failure.
Wife of late NBA legend sued company the very same day of the memorial celebration of Kobe, and Gianna Bryant held at the Staples Center.
To my baby girl... Gianna Bryant was an amazingly sweet and gentle soul. She was also thoughtful and always kissed me good night and kissed me good morning.
She added:She was daddy's girl, but I know she loved her momma. She loved to bake and loved putting smiles on everybody's faces. She was very competitive with sweet grace. Her smile was like sunshine. She had the best laugh. It was infectious. It was pure and genuine. She was an incredible athlete. She loved family traditions. She wanted the best for us.
She ended with 'Gianna made us all proud, and she still does. She would've likely become the best player in the WNBA. She would've made a huge difference for women's basketball. I am still so proud of Gianna, and she was kind to everybody she met for the 13 years she was here on Earth. I cannot imagine life without her. Mommy, Natalia, Bianka, Capri, and Daddy love you so much, Gigi. I will miss your sweet handmade cards, your sweet kisses, and your gorgeous smile. I miss you, all of you, every day. I love you.'
Vanessa spoke about her soulmate Kobe:
'Now for my soulmate. Kobe was known as a fierce competitor on the basketball court. The greatest of all time, a writer, an Oscar winner, and the Black Mamba. But to me, he was KobKob, my Boo-Boo, my Bae-Boo, my Papi Chulo. I was his VeBe, his principessa, his Reina, Queen Mama -- Mamba -- and his [inaudible nickname].
She shared:Everybody naturally gravitated towards Kobe and Gigi. They were funny, happy, silly, and they loved life. They were so full of joy and adventure. God knew they couldn't be on this Earth without each other. He had to bring them home to have them together. Babe, you take care of our Gigi. I got Nati, BiBi, and KoKo, and we're still the best team.
In the end, she said: We love and miss you, Boo-Boo and Gigi. May you both rest in peace and have fun in heaven until we meet again one day. We love you both and miss you forever and always, Mommy.
