Thomas Lee Bass, aka Tommy Lee, is an American musician and the founding member of LA-based heavy metal band Motley Crue. Tommy was also noted for mooning the crowd during his every show with his outstanding skills.          

He is also known for being the band’s long-term drummer. In 1999, he formed an American rock band, Methods of Mayhem, and has released two studio albums. As a solo artist, Lee has released three studio albums entitled Never a Dull Moment, Tommyland: The Ride, and Trans Genres.

He owns 9,991 square feet in Calabasas, California, with five bedrooms, 5.5 bathrooms, a movie theater, and a recording studio. The house also features a formal living and dining rooms, two kitchens, a library, a wine room, a piano-shaped swimming pool with a spa and waterfall.

The Motley Crue founder purchased the property for $5.85 million back in 2007 and first listed it in the market for $5.995 million.

He took the house off the market and re-listed it for $4.65 million in mid-2018.

Well, the 13 car garage in the house was converted into a recording studio by him.

Also, in 2016, he had put the house for sale for $6 million.

When Did Tommy Begin His Music Career?

Lee got his first drum sticks at the age of four and his proper drum kit when he was a teenager. He joined a band called Suite 19 in the late 70s and performed on the Sunset Strip club circuit in LA along with others, including Van Halen and Quiet Riot. 

In 1981, Lee alongside Nikki Sixx, Mick Mars, and Vince Neil formed the heavy metal band Motley Crue. The band built a strong fanbase shortly and released their debut album Too Fast for Love the same year. 

They later got signed by Elektra Records and released a string of hits like 1983’s Shout at the Devil, 1985’s Theatre of Pain, 1987’s Girls, Girls, Girls, and 1989’s Dr. Feelgood.

In 1999, he formed a band called Methods of Mayhem and released a self-titled album the same year. They released their second studio album entitled A Public Disservice Announcement in 2010 with tracks like Drunk Uncle Pete, Time Bomb, Blame, and many more. 

In 2005, he released his autobiography Tommyland and his second solo album titled Tommyland: The Ride. He also recorded drum tracks for the rock band Jack’s Mannequin.

In 2014, Lee joined the Smashing Pumpkins to perform drums for their Monuments to an Elegy album. The same year, he joined Motley Crue’s band-mates for a farewell tour.

Lee’s third album Trans Genres is set to release in March 2020.

In the past, he used drums sets by various companies like Tama drums, Sonor, and DW drums. He also used Paiste cymbals, signature Vic Firth and later Vater drumsticks. He briefly used Aquarian drumheads in the late 1990s.

Thomas Lee Bass was born on 3rd October 1962, in Athens, Greece, to David Lee Thomas Bass and Vassilikki “Voula” Papadimitriou. He holds dual nationality (Greece and American) and mixed (English, Irish, Greek) ancestry.

He went to Royal Oak High School; however, he dropped out of high school to pursue a career in music.

The 58-year-old musician has been married four times. He is currently married to an American media personality, Brittany Furlan. They began dating in early 2017 and got engaged on 14th February 2018. They exchanged their wedding vows a year later on 14th February 2019.

He tied the knot to Elaine Starchuk in November 1984 and got divorced a year later. On 10th May 1986, he got married to his second wife, Heather Locklear, and got divorced on 16th August 1993.

He got married to Pamela Anderson on 19th February 1995 four days after meeting her. While together, they shared two son names: Brandon Thomas (b. on 5th June 1996) and Dylan Jagger (b. 29th December 1997). The couple got divorced three years later on 28th February 1998.

Life Away From the Limelight

Tommy is a supporter of animal rights and PETA. In 2010, he sent a letter to the president of SeaWorld, Terry Prather, and protesting about the treatment of Tilikum, the killer whale.

He also supports charitable foundations like Buoniconti Fund To Cure Paralysis and The Miami Project.
