Snoop Dogg was born Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr. in Long Beach, California on October 20, 1971. He is the second of three kids and was named after his stepfather. His family were devout Christians and often took him to church which implanted a love of music on him.
He began rapping at the age of 6. As a teenager, he frequently got in trouble with the law. Although, he stated in 1993 that he never joined a gang, he was the member of Rollin’ 20 Crips gang. A DNA test he took, revealed him to be 71% African, 23% Native American and 6% European descent. He never had a college degree and was found by Dr. Dre after hearing one of his freestyle raps.
Snoop married his high school sweetheart, Shante Taylor, on June 12, 1997. On May 21, 2004, he filed for divorce from Taylor, citing irreconcilable differences but soon renewed their voews in January 12, 2008.
