Why AGT Season 13 Winner Shin Lim Won't Actually Recieve $1 Million?
A fine-print disclaimer on the screen says: “The prize, which totals $1,000,000, is payable in a financial annuity over forty years, or the contestant may choose to receive the present cash value of such annuity." at the end of every AGT episode.
In other words, if Shin agreed to choose the aforementioned offer, the magician should receive an annual sum of $25k per year throughout the next 40-year (which is taxable).
And even if Lim wants the second option- the present cash value, it will be $300,000 that turns out to be $150,000- $200,000. This doesn't mean that Shin won't be free from taxation.
