Born and raised in Vancouver, Shin Lim is a Canadian-American magician. Widely known for his use of card manipulation and sleight of hand, Lim gained massive fame after winning America's Got Talent (AGT) Season 13.

The artist initially won millions of hearts after showcasing his variations of tricks with dialogue and other elements.  He was one of the favorite talents among the judges Howie Mandel, Mel B, Heidi Klum, and Simon Cowell.

Lim performed some incredible magic tricks combining music and magic during his final round. On 19th September 2018, Shin was announced as the winner of the reality TV show in a very close race against Courtney Hadwin, and eight more talented contenders. 

Why AGT Season 13 Winner Shin Lim Won't Actually Recieve $1 Million?

A fine-print disclaimer on the screen says: “The prize, which totals $1,000,000, is payable in a financial annuity over forty years, or the contestant may choose to receive the present cash value of such annuity." at the end of every AGT episode.

In other words, if  Shin agreed to choose the aforementioned offer, the magician should receive an annual sum of $25k per year throughout the next 40-year (which is taxable). 

And even if Lim wants the second option- the present cash value, it will be $300,000 that turns out to be $150,000- $200,000. This doesn't mean that Shin won't be free from taxation.  

It is yet to be revealed which option Shin chooses.

Was Diagnosed With Carpal Tunnel Syndrome At 20

Shin Lim announced his diagnosed with carpal tunnel syndrome at the age of 20, in 2011. He majored in piano from the School of Music at Lee University in Tennessee. Originally educated to be a pianist, Lim, however, decided to pursue magic as a result of the diagnosis.

Shin Lim was born on September 25, 1991, in Vancouver, British Columbia. He holds dual citizenship Canadian and American and belongs to the mixed ethnical background. 

Raised as the second child of Singapore-born parents, Shin moved to Singapore at the age of 2 & later returned to Acton, Massachusetts, the USA at age of 11 with his brother Yi.
