Roberts, Jr. and two sisters called Sally-Ann, Dorothy Roberts McEwen. Robin is of American nationality and is of African-American ethnicity.
She graduated from Southeastern Louisiana University in 1983 with a distinction in communication. Robin was offered a scholarship by the Louisiana State University to play basketball but the institution was too big and impersonal for her.
