Richard Lee Petty aka The King is a former NASCAR driver who is best known as the seven-time winner of the NASCAR Cup Championship. Petty is also popular as the winner of the NASCAR Grand National and Winston Cup Series.

Early Career & Success
Petty began his career in NASCAR soon after his 21st birthday on 18th July 1958. He first raced at Canadian National Exposition Speedway (CNE) in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The following year, Petty was named NASCAR Rookie of the Year after he finished 9 times in Top 10 and six times in Top 5.
Richard won his first race in Lakewood, Georgia in 1959, however, his father Lee Arnold complained about scoring error and was awarded the win a few hours later.
The next year, Petty finished 2nd in the NASCAR Grand National Points Race and got his debut career win at the Charlotte Fairgrounds Speedway. In 1964, he led 184 of the 200 laps to capture his Daytona 500 winning 9 race and his first Grand National championship earning over $114,000.
