LaBelle began her professional career as the lead singer and frontwoman of the vocal group Patti LaBelle and the Bluebelles. LaBelle began singing at a young age of 10 from a local church choir at the Beulah Baptist Church. At the age of 16, Patti won a talent competition at her high school. She then formed her first singing group, The Ordettes, in 1960 alongside her schoolmates Jean Brown, Johnnie Dawson, and Yvonne Hogen.
The group became a local attraction with LaBelle as frontwoman until two of the members left to marry, and another one was kicked out by her father.
In 1962, the Ordettes added three new members Cindy Bridwong, Sarah Dash, and Nona Hendryx, and got signed by the local record label owner Harold Robinson.

Patricia Louise Holte was born on 24th May 1944 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the United States of America to Henry and Bertha Holte. She is American as per her nationality and comes from Afro-American descent.
She grew up alongside her siblings Thomas Hogan Jr., Vivian Hogan, Barbara, and Jacqueline. She went to John Bartram High School, where she won a talent competition and sparked her singing career.
Who Was Her Husband?
The 76-year-old singer tied the knot with Armstead Edwards on 23rd July 1969. Edwards and Patti were longtime friends who later on became her manager until the couple separated in the late 1990s.
The couple shared five children: Stacey Holte, Stanley Stocker-Edwards, William Holte, and Zuri Kye Edwards, who is now her current manager. Patti’s divorce with her husband was finalized two years later in 2001.
In 1964, LaBelle was engaged to Otis Williams, a founding member of The Temptations.

Lawsuits And Legal Allegations
In 2010, Patti went on the rage that resulted in her verbally and physically attacking a mother and her 18 months old daughter. She agreed to settle the dispute for $100,000 and attempted to get her son’s deposition when he lied that no altercation took place.
In June 2011, a West Point cadet filed a civil suit against Patti after her bodyguards allegedly assaulted him. Patti and her crew were on their way to a gig in Louisiana when a 23-year-old cadet Richard King was waiting to be picked up in the ride-share area.
LaBelle’s bodyguard attacked Richard causing a concussion and stated that he has provoked the attack. However, the video evidence showed that Kind was on a cell phone prior to the attack and was not engaged with any of the members until after they assaulted him.
Richard was later suspended from the U.S. Military Academy. He then sued LaBelle and Holmes for assault seeking $1 million in civil court. Efrem Holmes (Patti’s bodyguard) was acquitted of misdemeanor assault on 12th November 2013.
