Nasim Pedrad was born on November 18, 1981, in Tehran, Iran, to mother Arasteh Amani and father Parviz Pedrad. She is the older of two sisters, and her younger sister, Nina Pedrad, is a comedy writer.
Pedrad's family had planned to move to the United States, but only her father was denied entry. The rest of her family lived in Germany for the time being before being granted entry into the USA when Pedrad was 3.
Her family settled in Irvine, California, where Nasim attended University High School. After her graduation, she studied at the UCLA School of Theater, Film, and Television, graduating in 2003.
