The show ran from 2003 until 2009 and broadcast 60-minute episodes. The show really picked up on its fourth season, and viewing numbers skyrocketed. He and his group of constructors helped many people renovate their houses.

Unlike some renovation shows, Holmes on Homes is known for going all out, in fact, in an episode where he was helping a couple renovate a previous botch job done by their friend.

The job would cost an estimated $200,000 according to Holmes, but the “friend” had placed a $500,000 lien on the job and even took the couple to court. Mike and his crew employed over 100 companies and took 30 months as they first demolished and then built the house almost from the ground up.

Then after the show ended in 2009, he appeared on some TV series like Wapos Bay: The Series, Royal Canadian Air Farce, Marketplace, etc. before starting another show of his own called Holmes Inspection in 2009.

On the show, he inspected various houses and gave the participants advice on how to alleviate their dangerous living conditions. Homeowners call Mike to get assessments on their houses after previously getting ripped off or having bad living conditions.

In 2012, he started the show Holmes Makes It Right and focused his renovation skills on disaster struck homes. Similarly, 2014 saw the premiere of Mike's Ultimate Garage on which Mike guest-starred. The show was hosted by Mike’s son and daughter.

Mike Holmes has taken his passion for renovation and correct building outside the TV industry. He founded the Holmes Foundation as a way to help people from getting work done on their houses that is not up to par.

He has addressed the issue of lack of knowledge in the homeowners and via the foundation provides scholarships and bursaries of $1,500 to various Canadian college students.

Additionally, he has also worked with the SOS foundation in the SOS Children's Villages.
