The two-time Emmy Award nominee, Michael York, is an English actor and voice actor who has earned credits in more than 70 movies and has been active in theater throughout his career span. 

The 77-year-old actor has had major roles in movies such as Romeo and Juliet (1968), Cabaret (1973), Logan’s Run (1976), and Austin Powers film series. Queen Elizabeth II awarded the actor the OBE (Officer of the Order of the British Empire) in 1996 on her birthday honor’s list.

Subsequently, in 1968, he appeared as Tybalt in the 1968 movie Romeo and Juliet. The praises he received for his performance in the movie boosted him to getting lead roles in movies. He starred in the 1969 movie The Guru and portrayed a bisexual in the 1970 movie Something for Everyone alongside Angela Lansbury

Establishing himself as a leading actor in movies, York appeared in successful movies such as Cabaret, Conduct Unbecoming, The Three Musketeers, The Four Musketeers, Jesus of Nazareth, Austin Powers, and Logan’s Run.

Michael York owns a house in West Hollywood, California, in a three-bedroom and four-bathroom house with his wife, Patricia McCallum. The house is built over the area of 4,235 sq. Ft. is estimated to be worth around $1 million. According to the public records, the residence was built in 1948. 

Battle With Amyloidosis

The actor was diagnosed with a rare and potentially fatal disease called amyloidosis. He was initially concerned after his skin turned purplish in 2009. After more than three years, the doctors diagnosed York with bone cancer, which later actually turned out to be amyloidosis.   

The disease is caused due to abnormal production of proteins that are insoluble that can lead to shutting down vital organs. Later, the performer went through a stem cell transplant in 2012.

Michael York, OBE, born as Michael Hugh Johnson, was born on 27 March 1942 to Florence Edith May Chown and Joseph Gwynne Johnson in Fulmer, Buckinghamshire, England. His mother was a musician, and his father was retired military personnel later turned into a businessman. York was raised with an older sister and two younger twin sisters.    

York studied in Bromley Grammar School and later went to study at University College in Oxford.

He met his wife Patricia McCallum in 1967 when she was assigned to photograph him. The couple dated for a year before tying the knot on 27th March 1968. His stepson Rick McCallum is a well-recognized producer in Hollywood, having produced The Young Indian a Jones Chronicles and the Star Wars Trilogy.
