Mat Franco is an American magician who is the first-ever magician to win America’s Got Talent including the $1 million prize money. Born and raised in Rhode Island, Franco is best known for his personality-driven, sleight-of-hand style of magic.

The 31-year-old magician is currently headlining in at The LINQ Hotel and Casino at the Mat Franco Theatre located in Las Vegas. According to various sources, Franco is currently worth $3 million.

Short Career Highlight

Following his graduation, Franco began performing his one-man show on college campuses throughout the United States touring six months a year for about four years. Franco achieved mainstream success as the winner of America’s Got Talent season nine in 2014/2015. He auditioned for AGT on 17th June 2014 where he used card manipulation to impress the judges Howard Stern, Mel B, Heidi Klum, and Howie Mandel.

On 5th August 2014, during the quarterfinals, Mat used Heidi as his assistant and performed his tricks with fire and with disappearing and reappearing cards which earned him four Yes and standing ovations.

In a similar way, on 2nd September 2014 (semifinals) Mat was one of the twelve acts competing for six opportunities in the Top 12 Finals. For the act he made Howie, Heidi, and Howard chose random cars (6, 4, and 2).

He then borrowed Mel B’s phone, dropped it into the liquid, and vanished the phone using a hairdryer. He then moved into the middle of the audience at Radio City Music Hall to cut open seat no.642 revealing Mel’s phone inside the seat cushion.

Following the act, Franco was voted through the Finals and was declared the last magician standing in the competition.

For the final act, Franco chose to do a twist on his audition by doing a version of Cups and Balls. He also performed a large scale trick which included a human deck of cards that consisted of 52 random audience members that Nick Cannon chose and brought on stage.

In conclusion of the finale, Mat Franco was announced as the winner of AGT season nine winning $1 million and a headlining show in Las Vegas, Nevada.

What Happened To The Prize Money?

As per reports, most of the AGT winners never take the whole $1 million at once. The show offers an annuity payment of $25,000 per year throughout the next 40 years. Or they can take present cash value that is around $300,000 before taxes.

We can assume that Franco went for the annuity and received $25,000 annually from which a certain amount goes to tax payment.

Apart from this, Franco is estimated at around $3 million as of December 2019 by Celebrity Net Worth. Most of his fortune comes from his profession as a magician plus the annuity payment.

In the United States, a magician can make the highest of $68,000 in Washington DC to the lowest of $33,000 in Mississippi. In the West, they make $34,000 to $49,000 in Montana and California.

He also pockets a decent sum of money from his self-titled YouTube channel. As per the social blade, Franco’s YouTube channel pockets around $721 to $11.5k annually.

Life After America’s Got Talent

As of 5th August 2015, Franco began headlining in Las Vegas at LINQ Hotel & Casino after AGT. The show is titled Mat Franco: Magic Reinvented Nightly. By 2016, the show was named Best Magic Show in Las Vegas by the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

He continued to return in specials of following seasons of America’s Got Talent such as a Christmas special in 2016.
