Marc Craig Cohn is an American singer born on 5th July 1959 in Cleveland, Ohio, the United States. He is American as per his nationality and comes from a white ethnic background.
Cohn went to Beachwood High School located in Beachwood, Ohio. He then enrolled at Oberlin College where he taught himself to play the piano.
Later Marc transferred to UCLA and began performing in LA-area coffeehouses.
Rise to Stardom
Following his graduation from UCLA, he moved to New York City and began demoing songs for various writers including Jimmy Webb, Mike Stoller, and Jerry Leiber.
In 1989, Marc was a backing pianist for singer Tracy Chapman on her second album which eventually led to a contract with Atlantic Records in the early 1990s.
In February 1991, Marc released his debut solo album, Marc Cohn. The album includes hit singles like Walking in Memphis, Ghost Train, Silver Thunderbird, Walk on Water, Miles Away and Strangers in a Car.
His song Walking on Memphis was nominated for Song of the Year and Best Pop Vocal at the 34th Annual Grammy Awards. It peaked at no. 13 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
His second album, The Rainy Season, was released in May 1993 which included hit songs like Walk Through the World, Rest for the Weary, Don’t Talk to her at Night and Paper Walls.

The Walking on Memphis singer has been married twice in his life. He tied the knot with ABC News journalist Elizabeth Vargas on 20th July 2002.
They first met at the 1999 U.S. Open after Vargas interviewed one of Cohn’s friend, Andre Agassi. They welcomed their first son Zachary on 31st January 2003, and Samuel on 16th August 2006.
However, the folk-rock singer filed for divorce after 12 years of marriage in 2014 due to Vargas’ alcoholism.
Prior to Vargas, Cohn was married to Jennifer George. They exchanged their wedding vows on 20th May 1988 and share two children whose names are not revealed.
