Mackenzie Crook is an English actor, comedian, director, and writer known for his portrayal of Ragetti in the fantasy action-adventure film series Pirates of the Caribbean. He is also recognized from his role in the British mockumentary series The Office UK as Gareth Keenan.

Trivia: Gareth Keenan’s American counterpart Dwight Schrute in the American remake of The Office is played by Rainn Wilson.

In 2003, Mackenzie got the role of Ragetti in the action fantasy movie Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl for which he was nominated for Empire Award for Best Newcomer.

He appeared in two more installments of the movie Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest and Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End reprising his role along with an ensemble cast featuring Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom, Keira Knightley, and Penelope Cruz. The three movies in which Crook appeared in raked in a cumulative figure of $2.6 billion.

Mackenzie Crook was born as Paul James Crook on 29 September 1971 in Maidstone, Kent England, to Michael Crook and Sheila Crook. His father was a British Airways employee, and his mother was a hospital manager. Mackenzie was raised in Dartford, Kent, where his parents moved after his birth.    

Crook had a pretty difficult childhood considering the fact he had to go through hormone therapy for the lack of growth hormone. He discovered his love for painting when he spent his summers in with his uncle in Zimbabwe.
