The second month of 2020 and the world is devastated by another heartbreaking death. After Kobe Bryant, American has lost another legend. Sadly, American actor, producer, director, and author Kirk Douglas passed away on 5th February 2020 at the age of 103.     

Kirk rose to international fame through his leading role as an unscrupulous boxing hero in Champion in 1949. Some of his notable film credits are Young Man with a Horn, Detective Story, Jan Sterling, Touched by an Angel, Illusion, and Emprise State Building Murders

Douglas was the last one surviving stars of the film industry’s Golden Age. He died of natural cause at his house in Beverly Hills, California.

Tragic Death

The Champion actor died at the age of 103 on Wednesday from natural causes. He peacefully passed away at his home in Beverly Hills, California, on 5th February 2020. He was survived by his wife Anne, sons, and his grandchildren.

His son Michael Douglas paid tribute to his father via People magazine while he revealed his death news. Michael said:

“To the world, he was a legend, an actor from the golden age of movies who lived well into his golden years, a humanitarian whose commitment to justice and the cause he believed in setting a standard for all of us to aspire to.”

He added: 

“But to me and brothers, Joel and Peter, he was simply Dad, to Catherine, a wonderful father-in-law, to his grandchildren and great-grandchild their loving grandfather, to his wife Anne, a wonderful husband. Dad – I love you so much and I am so proud to be your son.

In a similar way, his daughter-in-law Catherine took to Instagram and paid a tribute with a photo of them with a lovely caption, “To my darling Kirk, I shall love you for the rest of my life. I miss you already. Sleep tight…”  

Did Kirk Suffer From Health Issues?

On 28th January 1996, Kirk suffered a severe stroke, which impaired his speaking ability. As per his doctors, unless there was rapid improvement, the loss of the ability to speak was likely permanent.

Two months later, Douglas was able to accept an honorary Academy Award in March. He also wrote his experience in his 2002 book My Stroke of Luck.

A Short Career Highlights Of Douglas

In 1941, Douglas joined the U.S. Navy and served as a communications officer in anti-submarine warfare abroad USS PC-1137 during World War II. In 1944, he was medically discharged for war injuries.  

Following his discharge, he went to New York City and worked in radio, theater, and commercials. He made his Broadway debut in Three Sisters in 1949.  

He made his breakthrough from his eighth film Champion in 1949. For his work in the film, he was a nomination for his first Academy Award.
