Academy Award-Winner Jon Voight, 82, is an actor who rose to prominence by playing Joe Buck in the American drama film Midnight Cowboy. He is best known for his outstanding performance in films including Deliverance, Coming Home, The Champ, and Runaway Train.   

During the 2000s, he gave a critically acclaimed performance as legendary sportscaster Howard Cosell in Ali. On 21st November 2019, Voight was awarded the National Medal of Arts by President Donald Trump.

Following his graduation, he moved to New York City to pursue his career in acting. In the early 1960s, he appeared in films and tv shows like Gunsmoke, Naked City, The Defenders, and others. 

In 1969, he appeared in the American buddy drama film Midnight Cowboy which became his breakthrough film. In the film, he starred as Joe Buck alongside Dustin Hoffman and was nominated for Academy Awards for Best Actor.

In 1978, he played the paraplegic Vietnam veteran Luke Martin in the drama film Coming Home starring Bruce Dern and Jane Fonda. Similarly, he played Jim Phelps in the action spy film Mission: Impossible alongside Tom Cruise, Henry Czerny, and Jean Reno

Jon Voight was born on 29th December 1938 in Yonkers, New York, the United States of America. He is the son of Barbara Kamp and Elmer Voight who was a professional golfer. He is an American as per his nationality and has mixed ethnic descent. 

Voight went to Archbishop Stepinac High School located in White Plains, New York. He earned his B.A. in arts from The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C.

The 6 feet 2 and a half inches tall actor married his second wife actress Marcheline Bertrand on 12th December 1971. While together they shared two children: James Haven (b. on 11th May 1973) and Angelina Jolie (b. on 4th June 1975) who are both actors.

He was previously married to actress Lauri Peters. They got married on 30th April 1962 and got divorced five years later in 1967.
