John Mahoney was an English actor who had $16 million net worth at the time of his death in 2018. The actor started his career in 1977 & got huge recognition after portraying Martin Crane in TV sitcom Frasier. In the initial phase of his career, he worked as medical orderly as well as a medical journal editor in the 1970s. Later on, he changed his mind and quit the job to start his career in the field of acting. When he was in his 30s, he joined Stretford Children's Theater.

After a year, he started working in the St. Nicholas Theater. In 1977, he joined Steppenwolf Theatre. Some of his notable stage works include The Water Engine and Orphans.

Breakthrough With 'Frasier': How Much Salary He Earned?

His career got huge recognition after he was cast in the TV sitcom Frasier in Season 10 (in 2002) as Martin Crane, alongside Peri Gilpin, Dan Butler, Jane Leeves, and David Hyde Pierce.

In 2000, he received Screen Actor Guild Award for Outstanding Ensemble in a Comedy Series. For around 96 episodes, he earned $150,000 per episode while the highest paid actor, Kelsey Grammer received $1.6 million per episode from 2003 to 2004.

For his final two seasons, he got paid $500,000 per episode. So as a whole, he received around $40 million from his appearance only in Frasier.

John Mahoney was born as Charles John Mahoney on June 20, 1940, in Blackpool, England. He was the son of Reg(who was a baker) and Margaret. He grew up along with six-siblings including Vera and Bernard

He joined St Joseph's College, Blackpool and later on immigrated to the USA where he joined the U.S Army and become the naturalized citizen of the US in 1959. 

He enrolled at Quincy University, Illinois for BA degree and completed his MA degree in English from Western Illinois University. 

Throat Cancer Led To Death

The actor was first diagnosed with Colon Cancer in the mid-1980s but later on, recovered from it. Again in 2014, he was again diagnosed with cancer, which was reported to be throat cancer. 

Later, after chemo and radiation treatments, he was said cancer-free by the doctors. However, he died on  February 4, 2018, and the reason for his death was termed fragileness and weakness.
