His first starring role came in 1993 where he portrayed Bruce Lee in his biopic, Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story. He took martial arts class in Jeet Kune Do with one of Bruce Lee's former disciples, Jerry Poteet, to prepare for his role. The training stuck with him and became a certified instructor at the discipline.    

Jason, albeit sharing the same last name as Bruce Lee, has no relation whatsoever to the deceased martial arts phenom. Nonetheless, his portrayal of Bruce Lee was singled out as the highlight of the movie. He reportedly made $250,000 in salary for his contributions to the movie.   

Following his breakthrough role, he landed starring roles in movies like 1993's Map of the Human Heart and 1994's Rapa-Nui.

He also starred as Mowgli opposite Lena Headey and John Cleese in the 1994 live-action adaptation of Rudyard Kipling's children's classic, The Jungle Book.   

He also starred opposite Kurt Russell, Jason Isaacs, and Connie Nielsen, among others in the 1998 sci-fi action movie, Soldier.

Lee also starred as Aladdin in the 2000 BBC One/ABC miniseries, Arabian Nights

He had recurring appearances as Detective Kaleo in the CBS police procedural drama series, Hawaii Five-O.

He went on to have appearances in movies like Dracula II: Ascension, Timecop 2: The Berlin Decision, and The Prophecy: Forsaken, albeit the movies never saw theatrical releases and went straight to DVD.

In later years, he had appearances in the 2007 sports comedy, Balls of Fury, starring Dan Fogler, Christopher WalkenGeorge Lopez, and Maggie Q; and the 2014 fantasy, Seventh Son, starring Ben Barnes, Jeff Bridges, Alicia Vikander, and Julianne Moore.
