Ian Hecox: Net Worth, Salary & Earnings Breakdown
Ian Hecox came into Smosh when his high school friend, Anthony Padilla, called upon his help with a Padilla's flash animation website, Smosh.com.
When YouTube started, Smosh was one of the earliest channels to capitalize on the growing phenomenon and became one of the platform's first established channels.
The earliest content on Smosh featured Padilla and Hecox lip-synching to popular anime and videogame theme songs. One of their earliest viral hits was the pair lip-synching to the Pokémon theme song.
Once their channel started catching fire, Padilla and Hecox branched out their content to include short comedy sketches -- thus the Food Battle and That Damn Neighbor series were born.
Their expansion continued with new video series, a website overhaul, and being assimilated by Defy Media in 2011 (then Alloy Digital).
2012 saw Smosh start a Spanish dubbed channel, El Smosh; an animated video channel, Shut Up! Cartoons; and Smosh Gaming, a gaming-related channel.
Throughout the years, Smosh has become an entertainment franchise powerhouse with over seven active channels, multiple albums with their video-game-themed music videos, a web sitcom series, and a full-length feature film titled Smosh: The Movie, starring the Smosh duo, along with Markiplier, Jenna Marbles, Grace Helbig, "Stone Cold" Steve Austin, and Michael Ian Black, among others.
Due to creative differences with Defy Media, Padilla left Smosh on June 14, 2017. Defy also shut down on November 6, 2018, and laid off all employees including the content creators at Smosh.
On February 22, 2019, Smosh, under the leadership of Ian, found a new home in Mythical Entertainment, and currently operates out of its Los Angeles office.
As of June 2020, Smosh has over 25 million subscribers on its primary channel with over a dozen individual and spinoff channels.
