Keith Edward Elam, popularly known as Guru, was an American rapper, actor, and producer. He was most known for being the founder of legendary hip hop duo Gang Starr, partnering with DJ Premier.     

He contributed to genres like Hip Hop and Jazz Rap and worked under the labels like Wild Pitch/EMI Records, Chrysalis, Noo Trybe/Virgin, and 7 Grand.   

Sadly, the rapper passed away on 19 April 2010 at the age of 48 due to blood cancer.

Keith Edward Elam started his career in 1986 with the pen name MC Keithy E and later renamed as Guru. 

In 1987, Guru founded an American hip hop duo, Gang Starr with DJ Premier. The band started with three records under the Wild Pitch Records record label.

Eventually, he gained impressive popularity with songs like Mass Appeal, Above the Clouds, You Know My Steez, Family and Loyalty, Full Clip, and DWYC, among others. 

He is also widely popular for his greatest hit albums such as Guru's Jazzmatazz, Vol. 1. Version 7.0 The Street Scriptures, Jazzmatazz, Vol. 2: The New Reality, and many others.  

His final artistry was the fourth installment in the Jazzmatazz series and Guru 8.0: Lost and Found. 

Within his career, he released seven studio albums and collaborated with Chaka Khan, Jamiroquai, Ramsey Lewis, MC Solaar, Busta Rhymes, Donald Byrd, and Branford Marsalis.  

Besides that, he also appeared in a number of movies like Who's the Man, The Substitute 2: School's Out, NYPD Blue, and others.

Rapper Guru aka Keith Edward Elam was born on 17 July 1961 in Roxbury, Massachusetts, the United States to parents; Harry Elam and Barbara Elam.  

He was raised in Boston with his three siblings; sister Paricia Elam, older brothers Harry J. Elam Jr, and nephew Justin Nicholas-Elam. 

He got his educational degree in business administration from Morehouse College, Atlanta. She also took classes at the Fashion Institue of Technology, Manhattan.  

Cause Of Death

Rapper Guru died on 19 April 2010 at the age of 48 due to blood cancer. He is survived by his parents, son Keith Casim and his three siblings.
