Hansen’s career began in 1981 after joining the TV network WILX-TV (affiliated with Lansing NBC). Then he joined WFLA in Tampa, Florida, USA. Right from the start of his career, he was involved in investigative reporting which would later make him famous.
He finally joined NBC News in May 1993 and worked for the network's, ‘Now with Tom Brokaw and Katie Couric’ show.

Start Of To Catch a Predator in 2004
On November 11, 2004, Chris Hansen started his show on Dateline NBC where he tackled sexual predators, especially on the internet.
The reality TV show had people impersonate minors on the internet who would ‘honeypot’ predators and invite them into a house that had already been fitted with camera and recording equipment, as minors to have sex.
Then the team would expose the predator on television, in later episodes, local police would be waiting to catch the predator at the ‘sting’ house.
The show was immediately well received and was praised for tackling one of the darkest subjects in society. To Catch a Predator ended on December 28, 2007.

Hansen started his own YouTube channel titled Have a Seat with Chris Hansen on October 8, 2019. His channel expands upon his former work of catching sexual predators and pedophiles.

He has investigated a lot of people via the channel and one of the major cases was when he investigated YouTuber Onision for pedophilia. Onision denied the claims and called the police on Hansen. He also filed a lawsuit against Hansen on January 24.

After the end of his career at NBC in 2013, he wanted to do an independent project titled Hansen vs. Predator. He started a Kickstarter campaign to fund the project but only raised $89,000 out of the goal of $400,000.

Bad Check Controversy
Stamford Police arrested Hansen in January 2019 after he wrote a bad check to pay for promotional items amounting to $13,000.
He turned himself in on January 14 of the same year and the charges were later dropped.
Chris Hansen was born Christopher Edward Hansen on September 13, 1959, in Chicago, Illinois, United States. He grew up in the suburbs of West Bloomfield and attended Brother Rice High School as a child.
After completing high school, he joined the Michigan State University College of Communication Arts and Sciences and graduated in 1981.
He has credited the police and FBI’s investigation of the disappearance of union leader Jimmy Hoffa as the inspiration for his investigative journalism.
Regarding his relationships, he is married to Mary Joan as of February 2020. The pair tied the knot on November 18, 1989. There were reports that Joan filed for divorce in June 2018 but the duo is still together. They have two sons together.
