Billy Mays was an American television advertisement, a commercial salesperson with a net worth of $10 million at the time of his death. He is best known for promoting iFix-It, OxiClean, Orange Glo, Kaboom, Zorbeez, and another cleaning, home-based and maintenance products on the Home Shopping Network and through his company, Mays Promotions Inc. 

He was featured in a Discovery Channel show, PitchMen along with his partner Anthony Sullivan that documented their work. He is a well-known TV personality in the US and Canada. 

Net Worth Details: Career And Income Sources

After dropping out of college, Mays worked for his father’s hazardous waste company before moving to Atlantic City, New Jersey in 1983. In New Jersey, he traveled to various shows across the US for a period of 12 years, selling various maintenance products and tools.

While at a show in Pittsburgh in 1993, Mays struck up a friendship with rival salesman Max Appel, founder of Orange Glo International. He was then hired by the company to promote their line of products which gave rise to his TV prominence.

He appeared on April 15, 2009, in the Discovery Channel show PitchMen and after his death, Discovery released a tribute episode to Billy. He and his partner Anthony Sullivan appeared on Conan O’Brien’s show on June 23, 2009, five days before Mays’ death.

Billy’s House And Cars 

Billy owned a house in Odessa, Florida. The mansion is surrounded by large palm trees and has a massive front-yard as well as a back yard.

There is also an outdoor swimming pool beside the patio which is separated from the living space by a glass door. He also drives around in expensive xra, but teh information is not available. 


An art piece of Billy Mays created by crew members from the Discovery show was sold at a silent auction whose proceedings were donated to Focus on Renewal; a community charity selected by Billy’s son. 

A charity was also founded by his son under his name which lends support and raises awareness for good causes.

The organization has partnered with Dunedin Brewery to benefit the Laundry Project. The project generates $1.5 per each pint of beer consumed which funds a “No Laundry Day” at local laundromats during which all people can get their laundry done for free.

The Personal Life Of Billy Mays

Billy Mays was born in McKees Rocks, Pennsylvania and raised in nearby Pittsburgh to parents Joyce and Billy Sr. He attended Sto-Rox High School, and later West Virginia University. He played as a walk-on linebacker on the college’s football team during the first two years; pre-dropout.


Mays’ first marriage was to Dolores “Dee Dee” Mays, which ended in divorce. He had a son with Dolores named Billy Mays III, who was 22 at the time of his father’s death. His son worked as a production assistant alongside him on the PitchMen TV show.

He had his second marriage with wife, Deborah Mays with whom he has a daughter Elizabeth who was 3 years old at the time of his death.  

Death And Funeral

Mays was found unresponsive by his wife in their house in Florida on the morning of June 28, 2009. He was pronounced dead at 7:45 am seeming to have died sometime overnight.

Initially, there was incorrect speculation that he had died of a head injury being hit by luggage in an airlines incident, but autopsy report found that he had chronic hypertension along with his cocaine use during the last days of his life lead to his death.
