Bill Belichick, 68, is an American football coach who currently serves as the head coach of the New England Patriots of the National Football League. He also exercises a vast authority over the Patriots’ football operations, making him the team’s general manager as well.     

As a coach, he holds several coaching records, including a winning record six Super Bowls and as defensive coordinator for the New York Giants. He was raised in Annapolis, Maryland, and went to Annapolis High School, graduating in 1970. He then enrolled at Phillips Academy for a postgraduate year to improve his test scores and grades. He later joined Wesleyan University, where he played center and tight end.

Following his graduation in 1975, he took a $25 per week job as an assistant to Baltimore Colts head coach Ted Marchibroda. The following year, he joined the Detroit Lions as their assistant special teams' coach.

In 1979, he began a 12-year session as a defensive assistant and special teams coach with the New York Giants alongside head coach Ray Perkins. Bill’s defensive game plan from the New York Giants’ 20-19 upset of the Buffalo Bills in Super Bowl XXV has been placed in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

From 1991 to 1995, he was the head coach of the Cleveland Browns. He compiled a 36-44 record leading the team to the playoffs in 1994, his only winning year with the team during his tenure in Cleveland.

Bill served under Parcells as an assistant head coach and defensive backs coach with the New England Patriots after his dismissal by the Cleveland Browns.

From 1997-1999, he had a two-year stint as the head coach of the New York Jets without ever coaching a game.

In 2000, Bill was hired by Robert Kraft and gave him near-complete control over the team’s football operations, effectively making him the team’s general manager as well.

In 2001, the New England Patriots went 11-5 in the regular season, defeating the Oakland Raiders and Pittsburgh Steelers on the way to the Super Bowl.
